Newcastle Racecourse is home to a number of prestigious and hotly contested racing fixtures throughout the year, including the Stanjames.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle, the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate and the Totepool Eider Chase. A dual track, it is popular with many of the country’s top racehorse owners, trainers and jockeys, and regularly attracts crowds in their tens of thousands.
Ladies Day at Newcastle is one of the major social events of the year, when the women of the North East come out in all their finery and the champagne and PIMM’s flows freely. The racecourse is also a great venue for non-racing events, regularly hosting music concerts, fireworks spectaculars and other exciting events.
The racecourse’s location within High Gosforth Park and just five miles from the city centre means that it is easily accessible and set in beautiful surroundings. It is also home to Brandling House, a Grade II listed building that was in fact the chosen venue for boxing legend Muhammed Ali’s own wedding reception in 1977 and is now available for hire as an ideal wedding, conference and banqueting venue.
Add to this the neighbouring facilities at Parklands Golf Complex, Complete Football 5-a-side Centre and the Border Minstrel Bar & Grill and the 812-acre High Gosforth Park has become an iconic destination.
