ONE of Britain's major racecourse groups which helped to pioneer discounted tickets for the country's service personnel is to join the national Tickets for Troops initiative. Northern Racing was instrumental in the expansion of the Value for Valour campaign that was inspired by a serving captain in the Royal Army Military Corps. Ten racecourses will switch from V4V at the end of the year, and join T4T. In all, more than 3,000 tickets will be made available free of charge across more than 200 horse racing fixtures in 2010. Most fixtures are covered at the ten racecourses. Racecourses offer the added benefit that they admit children under 16 free of charge when accompanied by an adult. T4T was launched earlier this year, giving servicemen and women free days at nominated sporting and other entertainment events. Northern Racing's nine racecourses are at Newcastle, Sedgefield, Uttoxeter, Hereford, Chepstow, Bath, Fontwell Park, Brighton and Great Yarmouth. It also manages Britain's newest racecourse - Ffos Las in west Wales. Group Managing Director Tony Kelly said: "I was delighted about the initiative for and commitment to our brave personnel in the forces with the support for Value for Valour. The racecourses helped to lead the way, and I am very pleased that it will evolve into the wider spread scheme that is Tickets for Troops." All serving military personnel and any veterans medically discharged since 2001 qualify for tickets under T4T. More information can be found - and applicants can register - at www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk where ticket bookings can be made.
